Cheng CHEN

陈诚

Cheng CHEN , born in 1985, grew up immersed in the world of Yunjin brocade, with both parents being Yunjin weavers. Following in their footsteps, he has devoted himself to the craft from an early age. He studied under renowned masters including Chen Zhenglin, Yang Jianshun, Zhuang Guohua, Hu Deyin, and Dai Jian, and has since become highly skilled in Yunjin weaving techniques, with extensive expertise in various types of looms and Yunjin patterns.

He is proficient in the structure and setup of both large and small pattern looms used in Yunjin weaving, and has a solid grasp of loom mechanisms and assembly methods from the Han through Qing dynasties. His work includes the reconstruction of ancient weaving looms used to produce silk gauze in the Han dynasty, gauze and damask looms from the Han and Tang dynasties, warp-patterned looms, small pattern looms from the Song dynasty, and large pattern looms from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

CHEN has led the reconstruction and innovation of looms such as the gauze and damask loom, sesame yarn loom, and ultra-wide Yunjin loom. He holds more than a dozen invention and utility model patents related to textile machinery. He is also the chief editor of The Weaving Techniques of Nanjing Yunjin Brocade.
