Claire Caron Mayor

Claire Caron Mayor is an artist deeply inspired by wildlife and flora. She creates dreamlike creatures that blur the boundaries between animal and plant forms, using recycled paper for the body and Merino wool for the fur. The wool is hand-dyed with plants such as indigo, resulting in unusual, organic colors that emphasize the beauty and fragility of living beings. Through anatomy, body mechanics, and a refined sense of movement, her sculptures convey a striking illusion of life.

Committed to ethical and sustainable practices, she develops alternative approaches to taxidermy that respect animal welfare. Mentored by Jacques Gilbert, Meilleur Ouvrier de France in taxidermy, she created Biche Azurée, which earned her the National Laureate title of the 2022 Prix Avenir Métiers d’Art. Her research continues through collaborations with local artisans and producers, as well as exchanges with biodiversity specialists, reflecting an ecological vision that lies at the core of her artistic practice.
