Marie Drouet

Marie Drouet is a visual artist who has transformed basketry into a contemporary artistic language. Her works, created by intertwining wicker and other natural materials, are sculptural pieces designed to integrate into interior spaces. Her artistic path is rooted in her family history: her mother was a graphic designer, and her father, a cabinetmaker, introduced her to drawing and the use of tools. After studying interior design at the École Boulle and the Sorbonne, and spending eleven years teaching applied arts, she turned to basketry in 2017, a discipline that proved decisive. She made it her profession in 2019.

Her work draws inspiration from organic forms and the cycles of nature. She has developed original techniques that allow her to create unique pieces beyond traditional basketry uses, attracting professionals from the luxury, decoration, and design fields. Deeply committed to environmental protection, she prioritises wicker grown in France, reuses materials discarded by wicker growers, and has planted her own experimental wicker grove. Curious by nature, she combines wicker with other materials such as leather, rope, fabric, and metal, creating hybrid works where ancestral know-how, material experimentation, and ecological concerns come together.
