Shuxian ZHAO

赵树宪

Shuxian ZHAO is a master of velvet flower making and an inheritor of Jiangsu’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. As the Founder of the brand “Wuyihuang,” he combines meticulous handcraft with deep cultural knowledge, transforming silk and copper into delicate, vibrant creations.

Rooted in history, velvet flowers trace back to the Tang dynasty and were once worn by palace women as headpieces, later spreading to the public. Drawing inspiration from Qing dynasty court images, Zhao reinterprets traditional forms in colour, shape, and scale, while also creating contemporary designs such as brooches that blend classical aesthetics with modern sensibilities.

Renowned for their technical mastery, vibrant artistry, and storytelling charm, Zhao’s creations have captured global attention. His collaborations span luxury and pop culture: Dior featured his work in its 2024 Spring/Summer runway, Pop Mart infused his craftsmanship into collectible toys, and hit TV dramas have showcased his designs—weaving intangible heritage into the fabric of modern media and fashion.

Through innovation and cross-cultural partnerships, Zhao sparks a dynamic conversation between ancient tradition and today’s creative world.
