Victoria Rabal

Victoria Rabal Merola, born in 1958 in Barcelona, Spain, studied Fine Arts, Painting, and Graphic Arts at the University of Barcelona, and Art History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 2008, she received a diploma from the Catalan government designating her as Master of Paper, and in 2023 she was nominated for the Craft National Award of Catalonia. She has been director of the Paper Mill Museum of Capellades since 1985, is a founding member of IAPMA – the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (1986), and an Honorary Member of the Catalan Association of Art Critics (ACCA).

At the Paper Mill Museum, she has continuously developed hand papermaking production processes for specialised commissions and artistic projects, while inviting artists and papermakers to lead courses. She has also conducted papermaking workshops at universities and cultural centres in Spain, Japan, Brazil, the United States, and Ecuador. Alongside her institutional work, she maintains a private studio in Capellades, where she experiments with paper and creates her own artworks. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and biennales in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Argentina, and Japan, and her artistic practice remains deeply connected to fluid natural phenomena inspired by the Mediterranean Sea.
